Choctaw Nation

DURANT — Ten new energy-efficient, all-electric homes furnished with appliances are under construction in Calera for Choctaw elders. The affordable housing, available across the 10½ counties of the Choctaw Nation, is offered to tribal members age 65 and older who are able to live independently.
Applications may now be submitted for the Choctaw Nation’s Independent Elder Housing program. Several openings are currently available in Savanna.
The program began in Hugo nearly 20 years ago and has successfully expanded to 209 units in 14 locations. Today, 197 Choctaw tribal members are being served. The units are built with a variety of funds, including grants, federal funds and tribal dollars. The program operates a $2 million annual budget.
