orge Morales, age 76, entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born on Sept. 9, 1943. Jorge was born in Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, México to Florencio Morales Cosío and Concepción Hernandez Gutierrez on Sept. 9, 1943.
He went to school at San Felipe High School in Del Rio, Texas. He married Maria Elena (Maye) Calderón Losoya on February 5, 1966 in Acuña, Coahuila, México. He graduated with a Bachelor’s from New Mexico State University; a Master’s degree from University of Wisconsin (Go Badgers); and a Ph.D. from University of New Mexico. Jorge worked as a Professor of Hispanic American Literature and Grammar for Southeastern Oklahoma University for 35 years. He also worked as a Spanish teacher for Plano Independent School District prior to retiring to Del Rio.
Jorge is preceded in death by his wife, Maye Calderón. 
Jorge Morales is survived by his spouse, Veronica Mendez Morales; his children: Diana Morales Piccolo & Stephen Piccolo; Cynthia Morales-Iliria; Jorge Morales and Lisa Roberts Morales; Claudia Morales Schaff and Aaron Schaff; his sister: Irma Morales Gómez; his brother, Luis Morales; his grandchildren: Dominic and Nicolas Piccolo; Alejandro Iliria; and Giovanni Morales. Veronica’s adult children “adopted” Jorge and treated him like a father. He is also survived by Veronica’s children: Luis Lopez, Emerson Lopez, and Alain Lopez.
He was a wise, funny and a loving man and most importantly a great father. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He was not a wealthy man, but found ways to help family and friends in many different ways that made a huge impact and will never be forgotten. 
Jorge succumbed to Covid-19 at Val Verde Regional Hospital after months of taking all precautions. The family of Jorge Morales wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. McKay and the ICU Isolation Staff at Val Verde Regional Hospital (Michelle, Amber, Daniel, Carolina, Chad and others) who made every effort to save his life. Without their bravery, so many more would be lost to this savage virus. The Morales family asks that people wear a mask, stay home, don’t socialize, and make all efforts to protect your loved ones from this vicious virus.
A virtual religious service will be announced soon through the family’s social media, and an in-person memorial to be scheduled once we are all safe.
