DURANT – A protest march is set to take place in Bryan County on June 9.
The Durant Police Department released this notice on its Facebook page on Friday afternoon:
On Tuesday, June 9, at 6 p.m. there is a planned ‘Durant Peaceful Protest / Black Lives Matter’ to march peacefully in protest in our community in regards to the unlawful killing of Mr. George Floyd in Minneapolis. The protest will be held at the Bryan County Courthouse/Durant City Hall area.
The organizers met with Durant Police Chief David Houser early in the planning stages, and they have been very good at communicating their plan with police and ensuring their event is peaceful. Our officers will be present at the event in an effort to keep the event safe for everyone.
The Durant Police Department takes seriously its responsibility to ensure that we protect the constitutional rights of everyone to peacefully assemble and exercise their freedom of speech.
