Bobby Joe Phelps, a resident of Calera, Okla. and proud member of the Choctaw Nation passed from this life on Feb. 8, 2020 in Durant, Okla., at the age of 79. He was born in Durant to Ted Phelps and Lois McDaniel Phelps on Sept. 6, 1940.
Bobby was married to Ann Curry Phelps and they shared their lives raising their grandchild in the country. Bobby was a man who truly appreciated being outside fishing and hunting. He spent his life caring for his family. Bobby enjoyed driving around on his four-wheeler checking his cows. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Phelps was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Phelps; parents, Ted and Lois Phelps; brother, Benny Phelps; and sister, Pat Edelen.
Mr. Phelps is survived by his son, Kenny Phelps of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren, Kim Phelps and wife Jennifer of Durant, Okla., Falon Nelson and husband Chris of Durant, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Harlee Mullens, Jake Mullens, Presley Nelson, Matthew Phelps; step-grandson, Braydon Wright; stepson, Billy Countryman of Ardmore, Okla.; brother, MJ Phelps and wife Billie Gayle of Garland, Texas; sister-in-law, Marvetta Phelps of Old Allison; niece, Gina Harris; nephews: Jason Phelps, Rayford Phelps, Jimmy Edelen, Joey Edelen, Tim Phelps; niece, Debbie Wells; aunt, Dorothy McDaniel, and life-long friend, Kenneth Fields.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at the Highland Chapel at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Okla.
