DURANT — Chief Gary Batton (right) accepts the Happy World Foundation’s 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award in Global Citizenship from foundation founder Akash Patel (left) and Lisa Ritter, president, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Batton was recognized for connecting people, cultures and countries.

At the Sept. 7 event in Dallas, Batton also was presented a 2019 Global Citizenship Award “for his record of protecting, revitalizing and passing down the Choctaw culture, providing opportunities for employment, improved healthcare, financial stability and overall well-being of all Choctaw citizens.”
