Release

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, D.C. to participate in a number of planned events which honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

On a local level, the Durant Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 113 will hold its annual Peace Officers Memorial Service. During this service, we recognize all officers who were killed in the line of duty and gave the ultimate sacrifice. The service will be at Market Square in downtown Durant on Thursday, May 16 at 6 p.m. The service is open to the public, and any law enforcement agency.
