One fatality in collision near Roosevelt Bridge

BRYAN COUNTY – One man is dead as a result of a collision Saturday afternoon involving three vehicles on the Bryan County side of Roosevelt Bridge.

Nam Ky Duong, 51 of Durant, was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler heading east on U.S. Highway 70 heading toward Marshall County. Doung attempted to pass a Ford F-250, driven by Mario Garcia, 29 of Madill, on the right shoulder of the highway and struck Garcia’s truck, causing the Jeep to lose control and travel left of the center line.

The jeep then struck head-on a Rent-A-Center truck, which was westbound and driven by Jeremy Alexander, 38 of Durant.

Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene from trunk internal injuries.

Michael Shults, a passenger with Alexander, 39 of Durant, was transported by Bryan County EMS to Texoma Medical Center in good condition with minor injuries.

Duong and one passenger, Thuy Thang Nguyen, 42 of Durant, were both transported to Texoma Medical Center in stable condition. Garcia and three passengers in the F-250 were not injured.

The highway and bridge were shut down for more than 2 1/2 hours.

Seatbelts were equipped in all vehicles, but not in use by Alexander, according to the report.

Detachments from OHP Troop E and Troop F investigated the incident and were assisted by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, West Bryan County Fire, Bryan County EMS, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
