The rain from Hurricane Harvey – now Tropical Storm Harvey – continues to fall throughout south and east Texas and Louisiana.

Among the many supplies that will need to make it to the areas affected is blood.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute is already at work and has sounded the call to donors because blood centers in the path of Harvey have had to close, meaning blood cannot be collected.

“So far, we’ve gotten requests from blood centers in the South Texas region, around where the storm made landfall, and have already delivered some blood units to help sustain blood needs while centers are closed or otherwise affected,” said Heather Browne, Marketing and Media Manager for the Oklahoma Blood Institute. “We anticipate additional requests for help given the developing situation and we will be ready to assist.

“We’re calling on donors of all blood types to give if they are able, as soon as possible.”

To contact the OBI about donations, call 877-344-8777.
