Velma Lee Scott Morton, a former resident of Durant, Okla., joined her Savior in Denison, Texas on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the age of 92. She was born in Boswell, Okla. to Myzel and Avo (Lansford) Dillard on Sept. 18, 1925. Velma Lee married Herman “Buddy” Scott on Jan. 7, 1943.   After his passing, she married T.C. Morton on February 11, 1995.

Velma was a longtime member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant. She was a former employee of the Durant Public Schools and worked at Washington Irving Elementary School.  Velma had many interests; she enjoyed music, sewing, crocheting, making candy, ceramics, traveling and working in her garden.

Mrs. Morton is survived by her beloved sons, Larry Scott and wife Linda of Sherman, Texas and Jerry Scott and wife Robin of Jackson, Mississippi; granddaughter, Lori McWilliams and husband Robb of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Marc Scott and wife Anita of Orlando, Florida; great-granddaughters, Haley Scott of Jefferson City, Tennessee and Gabbi and Lauren Scott of Orlando, Florida; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Morton was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and siblings:  Wheeler Dillard, Newton Dillard, Francille Rogers, and Etta Hall.

Family hour will be from 3-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. We will be celebrating her life and our love for her at a memorial service which will be on Monday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Durant. Mrs. Morton will be laid to rest in a private service before the memorial service.

We rejoice that she is in Heaven with her beloved Savior whose praises she joyfully sang all of her life.
