David Coxsey of Durant passed from this life on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at the age of 65, after a battle with LBD and colon cancer for more than nine years.
He was born on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1952 in Ardmore, Okla., to Ralph L. Sr. and Pat Coxsey. He married Margaret Dillard on January 19, 1979 in Durant. They had 39 years together.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents R.M. and Lillie Martin; parents Ralph and Pat Coxsey and brother Ben Coxsey. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of the home; sons David Lee Coxsey and Melissa of Durant, Chase Coxsey and Stephanie of Durant, and Dustin Coxsey of Duncan, Okla.; daughter Brooke Cooper and Matt of Kenefic, Okla.; brothers Ralph Lee Coxsey, Jr. and Allison of Durant, and Bill Coxsey and Thomas of Houston, Texas; grandsons Nickolas Williams, Raiden Ammons-Coxsey, Benjamin Lee Coxsey, Noah Cooper, Parker Coxsey and Cain Coxsey; granddaughers Azure Ammons-Coxsey, Clair Coxsey and Gracelyn Cooper; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Mike and Connie Copeland, Sarah Quarles and Janelle and Greg Dunne.
David was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church in Durant until his health would not allow him to attend. David loved driving the limo to pickup the elderly members, and he had a special bond with each of them. He also helped with the Wednesday night meals. He was a member of the Durant Elks Lodge for 35 years. He was proud of his Choctaw Indian heritage.
David started to work at the age of 14 for his dad at Coxsey Auto Supply. After his dad passed away he started to work for Combined Oil, went on to work for McCraw Oil when they purchased Combined Oil and continued until his retirement in 2007. David loved his customers and they loved him. He enjoyed having his family around especially his precious grandchildren. David loved helping people and was always a phone call away to help. He cared for his grandparents, Roscoe and Lilly Martin until their death. He loved watching Westerns and Fox News.
Bro. Bill Ledbetter, Steve Hooper and David Lee Coxsey will be officiating. David Lee Coxsey, Chase Coxsey, Ronald Starnes, Matt Cooper, Ralph Coxsey, Bill Coxsey, Mike Copeland and David Russell will be serving as pallbearers. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at Fairview Baptist Church followed by a graveside interment at the Highland Cemetery in Durant.
