Jerry Tumey

Jerry Tumey, 69 of Silo, Okla. passed away on Jan. 3, 2019 in Denison, Texas surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec. 30, 1949 in Platter, Okla. to James and Agnes Euler (Collier) Tumey.

Jerry grew up in Bryan County. He attended Caddo High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Jerry joined the United States Marine Corps on June 25, 1968 and fought in Vietnam War before getting Honorable Discharged on Dec. 22, 1969. He was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense, Marine Corp Good Conduct, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Jerry retired from the USMC and became a father and a farmer.

Jerry married Judy on June 23, 1983 and raised seven children (all from previous marriages) together at their home in Silo during their 22 years of marriage before losing her battle with cancer on Dec. 5, 2005. He then married Dorothy Goodman on July 27, 2007 in Durant, Okla. Jerry was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed being a farmer, hunting, fishing, cooking and carving.

Jerry is preceded in death by his father James Tumey, mother Agnes Tumey, brother Johny Tumey, son Jerry Wayne Boggs, and his previous wife Judy Tumey.

Jerry is survived by his wife Dorothy Goodman of the home, son Jerry Dwight Tumey of St. Louis, Mo., son James Nathan Tumey and wife Yasmine of Durant, Okla., daughter Melissa Phillips and husband Ted of Durham, N.C., daughter Hope Lewis of Durant, Okla., son John Boggs and wife Tammy Lane of Silo, Okla., daughter Shirie Harbin and husband Trey of Caney, Okla., son Tommy Lewis and wife Amber of Sherman, Texas, son Robert Lewis of Colbert, Okla., son Cody Lewis of Colbert, Okla., 17 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Durant, Okla.. Bro. Monty Wood will be conducting the service. Family Hour will be on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Nathan Tumey, Jerry Dwight Tumey, John Boggs, Jerry Wayne Boggs, Leo Parrish, Tommy Lewis, Robert Lewis, and Cody Lewis.
