Eugene “Gene” Melvin Thomas

Eugene ‘Gene’ Melvin Thomas of Durant, Okla. passed away quietly in his home on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019.  He was born Feb. 18, 1947 in Morris, Minnesota to the late Floyd Elmer Thomas and Clara (Kalina) Kroulik.

Gene was raised in Douglas County, Minn. and graduated from Jefferson High School, in Alexandria, Minn. in 1965. Gene served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1968.

He met the love of his life Peggy Weemes, while in the Air Force, where they later married at Maxwell AFB, Ala. They were married more than 28 years and raised two daughters.

He worked as an accountant, County Tax Commission, and RV Sales and Services Agent.  He retired from the RV business and enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Hobbies included woodworking, playing Farm Town, Bejeweled, collecting rocks and special coins but always had a love for nature and was usually found outdoors.

He was preceded in death by father, Floyd Elmer Thomas, mother Clara (Kalina) Kroulik, sisters JoAnn Kluver, Jacqueline and June Thomas

He is survived by his daughters Gena Dunfee of Mead, Okla. and Angie Stephens and husband Terry Stephens of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren: Abby Dunfee of Durant, Okla., Kyle Dunfee of Mead, Okla., Dana Mason and husband Cameron Mason of Durant, Okla., Brandon Stephens and wife Becca of Durant, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Kolton Horton, Kadence Stephens, Rever Stephens, Saleen Dunegan, Kaden Mason, Kane Mason, and Camery Mason; brother: Leroy M. Thomas and companion Mary Stoff of Durant, Okla.; half-brother: Warren Thomas of Coon Rapids, Minn. and half-sister: Mary Thomas of Minneapolis, Minn. and many great friends and family members all residing in the Minnesota area, as well as special niece and nephews Renee Wilson, Kari Gilsdor, Kevin Kluver and special longtime friend Ralph Horton. Lastly furry friends, Ms. Kitty, Dawg, and Sammie Sosa.

Officiating the service will be Brother Roger Spears. Family hour will be on Monday, Aug. 5 from 7-8 p.m. at Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral home.  There will be a small service on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. also at Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
