DURANT – Southeastern volleyball coach Brianna Barry has resigned her position as Savage Storm head volleyball coach to pursue other coaching opportunities.

Sports presented by Indian Nation Wholesale.

“We appreciate coach Barry and what she has brought to our Volleyball program, we wish her well in her future endeavors,” Director of Athletics Keith Baxter said. “We will begin a national search for our next head coach immediately.”

“I want to first thank Keith for giving me the opportunity to run the volleyball program here at Southeastern,” Barry said. “I loved my time here and enjoyed coaching every athlete that walked through our gym doors. Through the ups and downs, I learned so much about myself as a coach and made some incredible friends along the way. I am so excited for the future of Southeastern and I look forward to watching the program continue to grow. To everyone who supported volleyball I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Over her five seasons guiding the program, Southeastern collected 61 wins and advanced to the Great American Conference Tournament in four of the five seasons.

In her first season at the helm the Savage Storm matched its best GAC finish in the league’s eight-year history, finishing third with a 10-4 mark in league play.  They would also earn their first ever post-season tournament victory in 2014, knocking off Southern Arkansas 3-0 to advance to the semifinals.

In 2016 her team would reach the tournament and record the first-ever upset of a No. 1 seed in the first round when the eighth-seeded Storm downed Harding 3-2. That was followed by a 3-1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State which earned the program its first trip to the finals of the conference tournament.

Her team’s earned 12 all-conference honors over five season, highlighted by a Defensive Player of the Year award won by Caitlin Cosby in 2017.

Her teams were also standout in the classroom where more than 20 student-athletes earned Academic All-GAC honors, while Alissa Benson was named a Crafton Tull Elite Scholar in 2017, while three others took home distinguished scholar-athlete recognition.
