Barbara Hendrix

Barbara Helen (Rutledge) Hendrix passed away on Aug. 24, 2019. She was born on June 11, 1939 in, Cobb Oklahoma and was the eldest child of Roy and Matilda (McDonald) Rutledge.

She married Larry Hendrix on Nov. 26, 1957, and worked at the Durant Bank & Trust, then later managed the family business, Fashion Cleaners. She graduated from Durant High School in 1957, attended banking school in Dallas, and then Southeastern Oklahoma University.

She loved watching the Sooners and Thunder play. She and Larry attended many OU/Texas football games at the Cotton Bowl. Barbara was active in bowling, bridge club and was the ESA Sorority President and Southeast District Coordinator. She was also a member of the Northwest Church of Christ.

Barbara will live on because she had a big heart and a big personality. She was strong, beautiful and loyal to those she loved. She was vibrant and determined and knew what she wanted. Her love for the lotto was legendary and she had a magic touch when it came to the slot machines. Her laugh will surely ring out in Heaven with a sound all its own.

As a mother, she was younger than many of her peers and all the kids looked forward to a ride in her sporty Thunderbird. She was as bossy as she was brainy, as kindhearted as she was fierce, as quick to forgive as she was to anger, and one of a kind in every way. She was treasured by her family and loved by her friends. We will love her, and she will be missed.

Barbara survived by her daughter, Debbie Canada and husband Gary of Denison, Texas; son, Jeff Hendrix and wife Debra of Choctaw Okla.; son, Brad Hendrix of Ardmore, Okla.; grandchildren: Kaley Thompson, Colton Thompson, Collin Canada and wife Amanda, Wyatt Hendrix, Jessica DeSpain and husband Bryce and Logan Hendrix; great-grandchildren Cohen, Kyson, McKenzie, Amelia, Adlee and Brantley, along with many nieces and nephews.
